Sony TV’s most controversial show ‘Pahredaar Piya Ki’ pulled off-air and shocked everyone. The show bagged into headlines since the first teaser of the show is out. Despite many controversies, the show managed to broadcast the episodes. But when hundreds of complaint registered at Broadcasting Content Complaints Council, BCCC directed it to shift the show in the late night slot from the prime time.
The serial, which began airing on Sony Entertainment Television channel last month, attracted the audience’s ire over its content. It showed a 9-year-old boy, plays by Afaan Khan, romancing an 18-years-old woman, portrays by Tejasswi Prakash, and later they got married.
The show was slammed due to its bold content and for being ‘regressive’. Many viewers accusing it of ‘promoting child marriage’. Where were these slammers when ‘Balika Vadhu’ started and when old ill rituals are being followed in shows like ‘Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji’.
Anyways, coming back to Pahredaar. The makers shut the curtains when the actor of the show was rehearsing their lines and this sudden decision shocked everyone.
On it, the channel said in a statement, “Effective August 28, 2017, we are pulling off our program, ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows.”
Two weeks ago BCCC directed the channel and makers to move the show from 8.30 pm time slot to 10 pm slot so that minor do not watch. The council had also instructed them to run it with a scroll, reading that the show doesn’t promote child marriage.
Not only this, an online petition was also launched against the show, which was signed by over one lakh people, urging the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to ban it. As per a source, “The shift in the time slot didn’t work well for the show. The cast and crew were in for a shock. A lot of people will lose jobs over this sudden decision.”
