Today, I have two movies to review, one is Simran and another is Lucknow Central. The first movie I will talk about is Simran, written by Apurva Asrani, directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by T-Series. The film features Kangana Ranaut in the main lead, rest of the cast are just for filler’s sake.
Talking about the plot of the film, the name Simran itself indicated that it is a woman centric film and Kangana Ranaut is playing Simran’s role. The story is about a girl who works in a hotel in a housekeeping department. She is very easy going, carefree and cool kind of a person.
She gets married as per her wish and in few months she also gets divorced, she is a stingy kind of a person which restricted only tills she buys her own house. She goes to Las Vegas and as someone’s suggestions she went to a casino and sits on the gambling table to play.
There she wins $2000, from where her profuseness starts and she again went to the casino and from where she develops the habit of gambling. But this time she loses her money and becomes the debtor of a Mafia gang. To repay the debt she then robs the bank, and this is how a carefree girl becomes a criminal.
So does this criminal Simran get out of all this chaos? Will her dream of buying her own house fulfill? How does she get into the trap of Mafia? Will police be able to arrest her? Does anyone come in her life again?
To know all this you have to watch the film, because I am here to review the film, not to tell you the whole story. Now let’s see the film from my perspective.
The story of the film is good, a social message is hidden in the movie- that the money earned in a wrong way can ruin your life. No one knows when this amateur game of gambling becomes a compulsion and create a mess in your life. As I said, the story of the film is good but the screenplay spoils the whole zest of the story, due to which the film drags at certain points. The direction of Hansal Mehta is also okay.
If we talk about acting, I personally like Kangana’s work, she once again proved herself. Other actors also did well, but the actor opposite Kangana named Soham Shah, the boy whom Kangana’s family wanted her to marry, doesn’t look like an actor from any angle. I am talking about appearance, I am talking about his acting- we don’t know why the director cast him. The film is extensively shot in the US, so the maximum artist is from there.
The cinematography of the film is really good, its location is taken keeping a middle-class family in mind and Anuj Rakesh Dhawan has shown it very beautifully through his lens. There is not even a single song that can instantly come onto our lips.
Now comes my verdict, Simran is not the movie you will look for this weekend. The story is great but the screenplay is weak. Kangana’s acting is good but only her acting, so don’t keep your expectations high on this film if you are going for it. Simran is a one-time watch film and my rating to it is 2.5 out of 5.
