The environment and the economy are really both two sides of the coin. If we cannot sustain the environment, we cannot sustain ourselves- Wangari Maathai. So true, Our environment our mother earth should be kept save for our own survival.
To do so we don’t need any particular day to start with, but on the World Environment Day, today, we all should pledge to create a beautiful environment for ourselves and for the future generation. Taking inspiration from our celebrity eco-warriors let’s take a step towards the betterment of the mankind with this year’s theme ‘Connecting People To Nature’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
PM Modi who took the initiative to clean the country and environment, says on World Environment Day that India still has innumerable gaps to fill when it comes to eliminating pollution and toxins. He who commence the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ took to Twitter and shares that World Environment Day is the right time to reaffirm commitment to protecting the environment and nurturing a better planet.
In an another tweet he wrote, “We salute the will and determination of all those individuals and organisations working towards protecting the environment.”

Amitabh Bachchan
Bollywood megastar himself working towards saving the planet with full zeal and also directing his fans to take up the cause in all seriousness. Amitabh Bachchan is one of the prominent faces of PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Campaign, the 74-years-old actor is the brand ambassador of the campaign. He also tweets on the past about environment protecting. He is also celebrating the Earth hours since past few weeks, by switching off lights of his house for an hour.
Dia Mirza
Actress-Social Activist Dia Mirza and her passion to work for the environment protection is well-known by all of us. She works for the environment emanates from the eminent threat to our health and our lives. She also works for the habitat preservation and wildlife protection. Dia says, “I have always advocated the need for sustainable living, to make green and environmental-friendly choices in our day to day lives, and for all of us to think about what kind of a world we’re leaving behind for the future generations. It begins with simple choices. Within my home, I have made multiple changes. For example, creating green spaces with a bird-feeding unit to attract birds, butterflies, bees and thereby helping urban ecosystems thrive. I have also replaced plastic with glass and ceramics, and ensure compulsory daily waste segregation.”
Hrithik Roshan
The Kaabil actor is also geared up to spread awareness about the responsibility towards the environment. He participated in the plantation drive being held by the Bhalma Foundation in Mumbai. The campaign is about planting 500 plants around the city every day. Not only him Arjun Rampal, Sunny Leone and Ayushmann Khurrana too join the foundation and contribute to preserving mother nature.

The actress not only took part in Bhalma Foundation in Mumbai but also has joined hands with PETA India and launched a campaign to fight climate change by going vegetarian. She chooses a surprising yet intriguing manner and vowed fans with her latest shoot. Recently, Genelia D’Souza and Riteish Deshmukh also turned vegetarian.

Actor Brad Pitt also endeavours to save the environment. The 52-years-old actor started a project in 2007, post-Hurricane Katrina, in New Orleans to help build environment-friendly and affordable housing. He uses bicycles to travel around the city, has made several contributors for mother earth and recently undertook a road trip across America’s national park, for a magazine shoot.
Leonardo DiCaprio
The 42-year-old Oscar-winning star has been working tirelessly on the pertinent issue of climate change. He has also associated himself with organisations such as World Wildlife Fund, the Natural Resource Defence Council and Global Green USA.

Actress Dalljiet Kaur contributes to keeping the environment clean. She says she regularly checks her car’s PUC, save water by checking the leaking taps, close them while brushing and these small efforts lead to big change. She also says we see fewer people who throw stuff out of a car these days.
While on the other hand actress Vahbiz Dorabjee says, she also contributes every single day to the environment. Her mother also gifted her a bin for the car, which helps her throwing things in it and later dispose of them in a dustbin. She also says that one should not spit and litter around and she feels disgusted when someone spits on the road. She added, that her building has two dustbins one for wet waste and another for dry.
Actor Hasan Zaidi talks about pollution and says that it is a matter of concern and everyone should do car pooling to save fuel and prevent pollution. One should use air conditioners at night, he also talks about two bin concept and taking kids to park to teach them environmental cleanliness. He also says that one should not waste food.
On the same actor Vivian Dsena says, we should not use plastic bags at all and throw garbage in the bin and at the right place. Wet and dry garbage should be kept separated and spitting on the road should be fine.
Actress Shweta Basu says do not litter, avoid plastic, grow more trees, use eco-friendly Ganesha and Durga idols for the festivities and contribute to your own area by doing little things.
Actor Aniruddh Dave and Laksh also talks about the same. Aniruddh says use environment-friendly products, say no to plastic bags, start recycling, plant trees, etc. While Laksh says, we can save the environment by starting on an individual level. We can car pool, use cycle, regularly check PUC for our bikes and cars, plant trees, don’t throw wrappers on streets, and small things will definitely bring change.
